Round Up the Good Times at the SA Stock Show and Rodeo
The heat is on! Join Smokey Mo’s Friday, January 25, and Saturday, January 26, at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off– SABBQ for short. Sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association, it’s the largest BBQ team competition in Texas and offers more than $30,000 in prize money. This exciting championship cooking event, held on the grounds near Salado Creek, is part of a lively lineup of festivities kicking off the Texas Rodeo Season.
Watch 355 BBQ teams compete
In just four days, event organizers sold out 355 BBQ team spots and more than 1,000 all-volunteer judging spots – an all-time record! For the eighth year, Smokey Mo’s will compete with the world’s best cookers and pitmasters. All entries are scored on three points: taste, texture, and appearance. In a separate event for kids, the “Buckaroo Que,” the next generation of BBQers squares off.
Relish two full days of fun
Roam the grounds and watch the teams pour on their “secret sauce.” Check out the latest and greatest gadgets and goods at the BBQ trade show. Revel in a variety of family-friendly rides and games. Get in the groove with live music, headlined by Texas Country artist Stoney Larue, along with the ‘80s New Wave group, The Spazmatics. Sample the scrumptiousness! Many BBQ teams – including Smokey Mo’s – will be happy to share what they cook up. Food trucks and plenty of adult beverages are also stationed throughout the festival grounds.
Support a worthy cause
Proceeds from the cook-off benefit the SA Rodeo Scholarship Fund. Today, more than 2,300 students from 80+ Texas colleges and universities are on Rodeo scholarships – with more than $14 million awarded each year.
